Here’s a common one.
Phone call asking for an on site visit because the computer’s running slowly.
On arrival – what do we hear – “it’s been like it for ages”
Consider the following:
- If you had a car that was running badly, how long would you put up with it before taking it to a mechanic?
- If your TV took ages to come on, how long ’til you called an engineer?
- If you felt ill, how long would you leave it before seeing the doctor?
So why do computers with speed issues get tolerated for so long?
Computer problems, if looked at early enough, can be quick and relatively inexpensive to fix.
If problems are ignored, they can become worse, and remember – if a computer is taking more time to do its normal day to day stuff – it will take more time to rectify any problems.
