Windows Live Mail 2011 replaces Outlook Express

The latest incarnation of Microsoft’s email client, Windows Live Mail 2011 has replaced Windows Live Mail.

Live Mail was supplied with Windows Vista and has now been upgraded to 2011 for Windows 7.

You can no longer use Outlook Express with Windows 7 – so it’s an unavoidable change.

For the “die hards” among us who still prefer to use Windows XP, you can download Windows Live Mail for XP – unfortunately you cannot use Live Mail 2011.

Unlike Outlook Express which compressed all your emails into one file for each folder – Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items etc., Live Mail stores each email as a separate file.

As all emails are stored individually in Live Mail (and Live Mail 2011), you avoid the risk of losing emails as you no longer have the compressed .dbx files which could become corrupted, especially if they exceeded 2Gb in size.
